Fifth Grade Food Investigation Photo Gallery
On Thursday, March 2, 2017, the 5th graders gathered together for the third food investigation of the school year led by the Related Arts team (Mr. Marshall, Mrs. Balingit, Ms. Jones, Mr. Goodwyn, and Mrs. Backer). This investigation, titled Rootin' Tootin Root Beer Float, reinforced the states of matter that is covered in the 5th grade science curriculum. The students sketched the atoms of each state of matter and identified which part of a root beer float is a solid, liquid, and gas. They also made a prediction to see how much foam (gas) would form when they poured the ice cream and root beer together. The students then had the opportunity to make an actual root beer float and of course, they were able to drink it (for many, this was the first time they had a root beer float!) The next science food investigation will be on May 4, 2017.
